- Process Optimisation | Funis Consulting Ltd
Optimisation applies across all industries. At Funis Consulting Ltd, we help you achieve your goals by identifying which parameters to adjust, how to adjust them, and when. We use digital models to simulate the behaviour of processes and systems, enabling safe and efficient exploration of ‘what-if’ scenarios, identification of constraints, forecasting of outcomes, and design of process improvements. Services Process & Parameter Optimisation Achieving Desired Outcomes by Determining the Optimum Parameters Optimisation applies to all industries. If you know what you would like to achieve but are unsure of which parameters to change, how and when, that is where Funis Consulting can help you. Across sectors, manufacturers and operators face variations of the same challenges, whether that’s tight margins, high energy costs, supply chain uncertainty, labour shortages, tight timelines, or constant pressure for quality and consistency. Despite widespread automation, many operations still rely on reactive decisions and trial-and-error adjustments. Valuable experience remains essential, but in today's fast changing world the tools exist to move from intuition to informed decision-taking. -- Prediction versus Optimisation diagram -- Any optimisation tool starts with a robust predictive model, whether that’s data-driven or based on first-principles. With such models you can test ideas in a virtual environment before changing anything in real life. Digital models mimic the behaviour of your process or system, allowing you to explore “what-if” scenarios, identify constraints, forecast outcomes and design improvements safely and efficiently. Optimisation goes a step further and finds what are the optimum input parameters for your system so that you can achieve the desired outcome. This can be done either in two ways. The first is to carry out hundreds or thousands of “what-if” simulations and then analysing all of the resulting data. This can be used to not only determine the optimal parameter values, but also determine the sensitivity of your system to specific inputs. The second is to use machine-learning algorithms, such as gradient descent or Bayesian techniques, to quickly home onto the optimal parameter settings. -- Rapid convergence using Bayesian Optimisation -- Optimisation can be single-objective or multi-objective, meaning you can optimise your parameters for a single outcome (e.g. lowest cost) or multi-objective (e.g. lowest cost and shortest time). Multi-objective optimisation can be tricky, as the objectives can be conflicting (e.g. a lower cost means a longer production time and vice-versa). Multiple models can also be linked to capture interactions across processes. This is where Funis Consulting comes in, advising on how to approach such optimisation problems and testing out various possibilities before communicating all to you to find a solution that works best for you. This work requires more than code. It demands a deep understanding of how physical and chemical processes behave, and how to translate that knowledge into models that work in practice. In fact, we work alongside domain expertise for most of such projects as we believe that a joint effort is required to fully understand a system in a holistic way. - First-Principles Modelling & Simulation | Funis Consulting Ltd
Funis Consulting Ltd provides advanced first-principles modelling services, including reaction kinetics and thermodynamic modelling, molecular dynamics (MD), process modelling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), discrete element modelling (DEM) and discrete event simulation (DES). Services First-Principles Modelling & Simulation Mathematical, Chemical and Physical Models Data is incredibly powerful and so when you use data-driven models, complete with pattern and trend prediction, you can go far when it comes to understanding your audience or your system. Having said that, data-driven models, as powerful as they may be, have their limitations and that is especially obvious when it comes to predicting behaviour far beyond the range of the data that is available. Extrapolating too far introduces a lot of uncertainty and can quite easily lead to incorrect predictions, with very wrong decisions being taken as a result. So, what do we do in such cases? Many real-world processes can be modelled directly from first principles, such as laws of physics or complex logic. These types of models offer far greater flexibility enabling you to explore new operating conditions, diagnose complex behaviours and gain a deeper insight into how your system truly works. Which way to go with depends on what you have or know. If you have lots of quality data, but not as much knowledge, then data-driven models are best to use. Alternatively, if the dataset is not as large, but you do know how your system works and can describe that using an equation or a set of equations, however complex, then first-principles models are best suited for you. And if you have both the data and the knowledge then you can go with either data-driven models of first-principles, or else get the best of both worlds and combine the two methods together. -- Molecular Dynamics -- Our expertise, both in-house and through trusted collaborators, covers a wide range of advanced first-principles modelling techniques. These include: Reaction Kinetics and Thermodynamic modelling Molecular Dynamics (MD) Process Modelling Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) Discrete Event Simulation (DES) These methods are not limited solely to science or engineering applications. In fact, we have successfully applied physical-modelling principles to economic and operational systems bringing clarity to environments where intuition and experience alone may fall short. -- Output from a Reaction Kinetics and Thermodynamics Predictive Model -- We also have experience in building fast surrogate models by combining data science with first- principles modelling training machine-learning algorithms on Monte Carlo outputs from complex physics-based models, reducing prediction times from minutes or hours to near-instant. This is fundamental for speeding up decision-taking through instantaneous predictions. In summary, we can support businesses and teams across any sector in building models. These can range from simple chemical reactions to highly complex multi-physics processes. Through equation-based modelling & simulation as well as a problem-solving focused mindset, our solutions are tailored to your needs. This can be done by going on New/Edit Tool, filter the Tool in question and simply change setting. Here you can also choose from the drop-down list of Simulator Approvers, who from the list of Approvers you would like to be in charge of approving Simulations for this Tool. Once a User uses the Tool for a Simulation Job or Workflow, a message will show up saying that the Job requires approval. The Simulator Approver will receive an email that he/she has Simulation Approval requests. Once the Simulation Approver approves the requests the Jobs will run automatically without any further intervention from the requestor. The Simulation Approver can also decide to cancel the request. MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Creating New Tables, New Rows and New Columns In this sneak peak of our Simulation Process and Data Management software, MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ, we are watching how to add a new Table, Row or Column to your Database. To add a new Table simply go to Manage Database functionality and choose Create a New Table. In this section you will need to complete the details about the Table that you would like to create, such as giving a name to your Table, choosing the number of Columns that you need, the Name for your Columns, as well as the Column Types for the Columns in your Table. MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ comes with seven default Column types. These are Integer, Text, Real, Numeric, Boolean, Date and DateTime. In this section you also have the option to add a Foreign Key and therefore choosing the number of Foreign Keys that you want, the Foreign Key Column in the new Table, the Reference Table as well as the Reference Column. You can also add a Row to an existing Table or else the one you have just newly created. Simply choose the Table and Add a new Row, inserting the details of the new Row for each Column in the Table, according to the Column Type of each specific Column. To add a new Column, choose an existing Column from the drop-down menu of existing Tables. Choose a name for your new Column as well as the Column Type and decide whether to insert a value in the corresponding row of the new Column, in which case you will also need to insert a value. If you decide not to give a value to the row, then the Column will still be created but won't have any values in it. A quick and easy way to see your newly created Table in full, completed with added Rows and Columns, is to go to the Database Explorer functionality of MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ and select the Table to explore, from the drop-down menu. Here you can also use the filters to filter through the Table, if you like! MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Edit Tools and Workflows including Files Today's sneak peek of MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ, the software-agnostic Simulation Process and Data Management software, is about editing a Tool and Workflow, including files, directly from the interface. To edit a Tool using MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ, simply go on New/Edit tool functionality, choose the Tool that you would like to edit and edit the required details and settings. In this video we have changed the Teams who have access to the Tool as well as the status of the Tool from New to Released. By default Super Users and Administrators see all Tools irrespective of the Team chosen as well as the status of the Tool. However this is not the case for a Regular User who will have access to the Tool only if the Tool is set to Released and if the relative Team is selected. The same goes for a Beta Tester who will see the Tool only when the Tool is in Testing status as well as when the relative Team is selected. In this section, in the tab Edit File you can choose any input/output file, any static file or any preset file, whether that is an existing one or by uploading a new one, and make the necessary changes to the file, directly on the interface! The same goes for Workflows. Workflows can be edited in the New/Edit Workflow by choosing the Workflow to edit and make the necessary changes. For Workflows, similarly to Tools, you can edit the existing and new Workflow Files directly on the Interface, by making the changes, validating and saving! MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo My Jobs / Workflows and Job Search This sneak peek of MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ, the software-agnostic Simulation Process and Data Management software, shows how to use My Jobs/Workflows functionality as well as the Job Search functionality. My Jobs/Workflows functionality allows you to browse through Projects, Scenarios and Tools, simply by selecting any Project, Scenario or Tool that you wish to view, or else by choosing the Job ID from a drop-down list of Job IDs. In this section you can see both completed Jobs/Workflows as well as non-completed ones and for the latter you can choose your input parameters and run these on the spot to complete them! For your Jobs/Workflows you can choose your parameters which can range from Presets, Inputs from previous Jobs, Defaults as well as changing the parameters manually, as desired. Workflows comprise of more than one tool, and in case of an upstream model, the outputs generated, may be the inputs of a downstream model, therefore one job must be completed for the other one to launch. The Job Search functionality in Home also allows you to explore the various completed and non-completed Jobs and Workflows too complete with analytics. Simply search the Jobs/Workflows by choosing the Tool and then filter as needed, or you can choose to see all of them. The filter option allows you to change any parameter and filter accordingly, including to choose the desired numeric value % range of the parameters to filter. The filtered Jobs will be displayed immediately as you change the filter and parameters. You can select Jobs by ticking next to them and then go to the Explore tab, where you can see the Job Results/Outputs, inclusive of plots, graphs, input and output details. You can also download the Input and Output summary file, the Output Files and the All Tool Files directly on your computer in a single click! MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Usage Statistics Here we are watching a sneak preview of Usage Statistics using MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ, the software-agnostic Simulation Process and Data Management software. Usage Statistics functionality in MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ shows you information about the Software usage, such as Projects, Scenarios, Jobs, Registered Users, Users with Logon Rights, Overall Tool Usage, Usage by Team, Total Usage Over Time and Usage by Users. Furthermore, in this section you can filter by all Tools or a specific Tool, by all Teams or a specific Team or else by all Access Rights Groups or a specific Access Rights Group. You can also use the filters to choose a specific time period. This can be by date range, where you can choose a Start Date and an End Date as well as by a chosen number of past weeks or months. Upon changing the filters the visuals and information will change automatically and immediately. And because MATOFX SPDMᵀᴹ is fully customisable you can add even more usage analytics to this! MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Database Explorer and Search User Activity This sneak peak is about the Database Explorer functionality in MATOFX SPDM™, the software-agnostic Simulation Process and Data Management software designed and developed by Funis Consulting Ltd. Database Explorer allows you to explore the different tables in your MATOFX SPDM™ database, by simply choosing the Table to explore from a drop-down menu with all existing Tables and filtering the data, as and if required. For instance the Jobs table provides detailed information on all the jobs and you can also filter the Table. Furthermore, by clicking on any Job it will provide you a log for that particular job. In the video we can also see how we launched a Job (Job 278) using the Heat Transfer tool in an existing project (Project Alpha), using the Quick Access functionality and then viewed the log of that job in Database Explorer's Jobs table (the Quick Access functionality will be covered in one of our next sneak peaks so stay tuned!). Another feature of the Database Explorer functionality is the Search User Activity, where by selecting the user from a drop-down list of existing users you can filter through the details of that user's Projects, Scenarios, Workflows and Jobs. In the video we can also see the Jobs Management tab in the Database Manager functionality where you can filter and delete any unfinished jobs that are older than a specified period of time of your choice. There is normally a minimum job age threshold that is set for this functionality, and this is done in order to remove old empty entries from the database, as a way to keep clean your database with valid information. MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Upload or Import Tools and Workflows In this sneak peak we are going to watch how to upload a Tool, as well as how to import Tools and Workflows from another database (maybe a Staging database), using MATOFX SPDM™, the software-agnostic Simulation Process and Data Management software fully designed and developed by us, here at Funis Consulting Ltd. To upload a Tool simply insert the details of your Tool and upload the Tool icon, the Static File, the Input/Output file as well as any Presets file. You also need to choose the Job Execution details, such as Job Type (eg. HPC with GPU (batch), AOS-repeat calculator (py), AOS-GPU calculator (exe) etc.), the server the Tool will run on, the CPU cores required, the RAM required and the number of licences required. The user will also need to choose the Tool status settings such as the major and minor versions, whether the tool is New, in Testing or Released, job email notifications are to be sent, as well as whether it will require Approval before running a Job. Don't worry though, if later on you need to change these details, you can do so in the next tab, Edit tool. Uploads, edits and updates to the Tool are normally carried out by a Super User or an Administrator - this also ensures that once a Tool is updated or edited, every user who has access to the Tool is using the latest, current one and not the older Tool. In the first part of the video we see how to Upload a tool, and it is pretty much the same steps to upload Workflows: simply go to New/Edit Workflow instead of New/Edit Tool! However, there is also an other, easier way to upload Tools and Workflows, especially when you have several of these in another database and you want to push them to Prod! The way is to import any or all Tools and Workflows directly in the Import Tools and Workflows functionality of MATOFX SPDM™. Simply choose the source path of your Database, Tool(s) and Workflow(s) and import them to your destination paths. And if the destination path doesn't exist, then MATOFX SPDM™ will automatically create it during importation. So, you don't have to create them manually again from scratch, one-by-one. MATOFX SPDM™ Request A Demo Render Image and CAD Files This is a sneak preview of MATOFX SPDM™ and its rendering capabilities. MATOFX SPDM™ is able to render both Images and CAD files. In the first part of the video we can see that we can upload an image. Here we use a model to transform the colour in an image, and you can see the way MATOFX SPDM™ renders the image perfectly. Furthermore, with MATOFX SPDM™ you can download files related to the images, Input and Output summary, Output File and All Tools File. In the second part of the video, you can see how we uploaded a CAD image and were able to interact easily with the image, including coming in and out of the structure. But these are not all the rendering capabilities of MATOFX SPDM™. 2D and 3D plots and graphs, 3D animations, Videos, PDFs and Web Tools are all things that MATOFX SPDM™ can render easily, perfectly well and directly on the User Interface! - Human-Centric Solutions | Funis Consulting Ltd
At Funis Consulting Ltd, we believe technology and innovation should serve a clear purpose. We develop impactful, data-driven and technology-enabled solutions that create measurable positive impact for businesses, people and society. Services Human-Centric Solutions Solutions Designed and Built with and for People Here at Funis Consulting Ltd, we firmly believe that technology and innovation should serve a purpose. Through our work we create impactful solutions that do good... solutions that make a positive impact. We focus on delivering smart, tailored solutions that create real value, that empower rather than overwhelm, designed and built with the end-user in mind, whatever the level of technical ability of the user. This ensures that those stakeholders who need to use the solution or need to understand the insights produced from it can use the tool with confidence and without difficulties, whether these are operators, shop-floor personnel, managers or data analysts. Our interfaces are designed with different views, access rights and visual styles. This is because a data scientist and a machine operator at your company may not need the same level of detail and so they do not need the same interface or outputs. Or if they do need the same details, the interface can be made to display differently according to the team's needs on the job as well as the level of technical, scientific and data proficiency of the users. Our approach is inclusive by design, and we use clean layouts, accessible language and thoughtful UX choices, making the software or solution comfortable to use as well as quicker and easier to adopt within the business and amongst teams. We ensure that we listen to the needs of business as well as of the different team members utilising the software, at different stages of development and we work alongside in-house personnel during the software development design, wherever this is possible, so that their input, concerns and preferences are taken on board at an early stage. This ensures true customisation and usefulness of the tool. -- User-friendly UI built for FuniSoft Ltd -- Beyond design, we also support the people who will use the solution. We have experience in training and capacity-building and we can provide onboarding, tailored training sessions and early-stage guidance so teams feel confident in adopting the tool with ease and in a short period of time. Even though our solutions may rely on science, mathematics, data and state-of-the-art technology, such models and algorithms are running and working for you in the background, while what teams interact with is a clear and intuitive interface or dashboard designed around the user, therefore making the experience for your business and teams straightforward, purposeful and human. While Python is our coding language of choice due to the versatility and vast libraries and possibilities in the scientific realm, we are software-agnostic, meaning that we can also work with other programming languages and software, ensuring seamless integrations into your current systems. Ultimately, Funis Consulting’s goal is to deliver solutions that fit naturally into real workflows, simplifying decision-making and empowering users. We do not simply build technology, but we focus on enabling clarity, usability and thoughtful design with our solutions, for the end-goal of creating real positive impactful solutions that do good.
